Basic Cupcake Recipe
Ingredients
- 110g butter
- 110g caster sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 110g self-raising flour
- Pinch of salt
Method
- Turn the oven on to 180C or Gas Mark 4 and full your cupcake trays with cases.
Either using a wooden spoon or an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until they’re pale and fluffy. - Beat the eggs in a jug and slowly pour them in, little by little, mixing as you go. Ensure all the egg is mixed in before you add any more.
- Add in the vanilla and flour. Fold the flour in slowly until all the powder has been mixed. Add a pinch of salt to add a little flavour.
- Put the mixture into the cases evenly and pop them into the oven for 15 minutes.
- To check they’re cooked, put a skewer or a thin knife into each cake. When it comes out clean, it’s finished.
Basic Buttercream Recipe
Ingredients
- 150g butter
- 300g icing sugar
- A flavouring of your choice
- 3 tbsp of milk
- Colouring of your choice.
Method
- To make the buttercream, whisk the butter using an electric mixer – or a very strong arm.
- When the butter is fluffy, add in the icing sugar slowly.
- Add in your flavouring and colouring.
- Then you can either spoon or pipe your buttercream onto your cupcake.
